This is due to avascular necrosis which occurs when there is a loss of blood supply to the bone which will then deteriorate. It can also be caused by a transplant or because of Perthes’ disease. This disease occurs in children, primarily boys that are between the ages of 5-10 and will cause pain in the hips of the child. Some other reasons that children have hip pain problems are from congenital dislocation of their hip. This is usually treated with surgery. Another cause that can happen in children and adults is viral illness. Then there are various malignancies though this is not seen very often. Paget’s disease can also cause hip pain in adults. When you talk to your doctor you will want to let them know your personal history due to the varying causes of hip pain. Besides surgery, physical therapy and medications which are all used to help with hip pain and walking aids may also work to help if necessary. |
