Symptoms And Causes Of Hip Pain Problems

There are many people all over the world that deal with hip pain problems on a daily basis. When you have hip pain this means that you have pain in or around the hip joint. When you notice any pain in your hip you will need to go see your doctor. They will be able to tell you what you need to do to help you get rid of the hip pain. You don’t want to ignore the pain and hope that it will go away. It will just end up getting worse and be even more painful than it already is.
Hip pain is very common but it can be confusing because there are many causes to hip joint pain. It is very important that you get a diagnosis of the cause of your hip pain symptoms so that you can get the treatment that you need to take care of the problem.

Here are some hip pain causes that you need to be aware of.

Hip pain usually happens to people that are in the age groups of, the young age group (from 0 to 15 years) and the older generation (45 years old).The treatment for the pain in your hip needs to be directed at the cause of your problem.

When you have the following signs you need to see your doctor as soon as possible.
  • One: When you can’t walk comfortably because you have an affected side on your body due to pain in your hip.
  • Two: If you have an injury that causes deformity around the hip joint.
  • Three: When you sleep at night or rest and you have hip pain that occurs when you do then you will need to see the doctor.
  • Four: Pain in hip that lasts for more than a few days.
  • Five: You can’t bend at the hip.
  • Six: If you have swelling in your hip joint or thigh area.
  • Seven: When you have signs of infection such as fever, redness or warmth.
  • Eight: Any other type of unusual symptoms that you have noticed in your hip area.
There are many causes for hip pain and it can occur no matter what age you are though the reasons will be different for each person. For the elderly the most common cause of pain in the hips is arthritis or it could be a form of osteoarthritis. Other forms of arthritis that can cause hip pain are Rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic arthritis, and many other lesser known types of arthritis. The second cause for hip pain for the elderly is when they fall and end up with a hip fracture. Osteoarthritis can cause elderly people to fall that will cause a hip fracture. When you have pain in your hip because of fractures it will have to be treated with hip replacement surgery to get rid of the severe chronic hip pain.

Other causes of hip pain problems are bursitis, synovitis or tendonitis. You most often see these conditions in athletic activities. Then there are muscle strains and sprains in your muscles that adjoin to the hip will also cause pain and can also include microtears. For all of these causes of pain they can be treated with physical therapy and non-steroid anti-inflammatory medications. They can be over the counter pain relievers like ibuprofen or they can involve prescribed medications that you take either orally or injected in your hip area to help you get rid of the pain.

If you have to use Cortisone injections for treatment over a long term period than this can also cause hip pain. This is due to avascular necrosis which occurs when there is a loss of blood supply to the bone which will then deteriorate. It can also be caused by a transplant or because of Perthes’ disease. This disease occurs in children, primarily boys that are between the ages of 5-10 and will cause pain in the hips of the child.

Some other reasons that children have hip pain problems are from congenital dislocation of their hip. This is usually treated with surgery. Another cause that can happen in children and adults is viral illness. Then there are various malignancies though this is not seen very often. Paget’s disease can also cause hip pain in adults.

When you talk to your doctor you will want to let them know your personal history due to the varying causes of hip pain. Besides surgery, physical therapy and medications which are all used to help with hip pain and walking aids may also work to help if necessary.
